Pegasus Boatyard, Oulton Broad

Pegasus Boatyard, Oulton Broad

A little history:

The managers of the Pegasus Marina were told by the landowner they had until December 31 2006 to move off the site, which is set to be developed for housing.

Oulton Broad has lost its last traditional boatyard.

The boatyard was responsible for building Pegasus yachts production ceased a long time ago but owners had still been able to visit Oulton Broad for specialist repairs.

As well as providing repairs and moorings, the yard also had a crane to lift boats in and out of the water and a shed to allow sailors to carry out their own work.

The yard provided moorings for 50 boats, with space for a further 50 to be stored over the winter, customers  received letters telling them they must find a new marina.

The 2006 plans for 151 homes, some up to seven storeys high, were withdrawn by Badger Building amid local opposition and concerns over traffic and flooding.

Lowestoft-based Badger Building (E Anglia) Ltd submitted revised proposals to the Broads Authority at the end of 2012.
